MNbump is a regional marketing effort dedicated to highlighting the quality of life, tourism, businesses, and community assets in Big Stone County, Minnesota. MNbump
uses local bloggers, videos, and social media to showcase community events and amenities to attract workers and residents to our area. Our name comes from the “bump” shape you see on a map of western Minnesota. Our area has beautiful open spaces with lakes, grasslands, and wooded areas along with great farmlands. You will find that you can live in any of our open spaces and have access to broadband, so you can work from your home and enjoy these views!
Ortonville is our largest community and is located on the shores of Big Stone Lake. Big Stone Lake is 26 miles long and is known as one of Minnesota’s top fishing destinations! The community hosts numerous events throughout the year including the Big Stone Lake Area Chamber’s annual Cornfest event! Then heading north to Graceville (our next largest community), you’ll find the pizza worth driving miles for! But they are also very well known for their St. Patrick’s Day Parade and celebration. And back to the middle of the County, you’ll find Clinton, a friendly community with
playgrounds and a historic railroad depot. Clinton also hosts the annual Big Stone County Fair. Beardsley has an annual picnic in the park that brings you back to the best of yesteryear. Families gather – the kids play in the playground while the adults visit and enjoy the day. Odessa hosts a fun 4th of July parade and an afternoon of outdoor games, along with Correll, Johnson, and Barry! – #LivingRuralandLovingIt!
In Big Stone County you will also find two Medical Centers (hospitals, clinics, and senior housing). You will find great public safety throughout the County by the Big Stone County Sheriff’s Department. And two great school districts within our smaller populated county. The amenities you’d find in larger areas with the benefit of a less populated rural setting. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it?

MNbump began in 2015 as a regional marketing campaign initiated by Big Stone Area Growth (BSAC), a public-private partnership aimed at boosting rural development. It was developed following a University of Minnesota Extension tourism assessment to highlight life in western Minnesota’s “bump” (the area bordering South Dakota). To showcase the quality of life, recreational opportunities (like Big Stone Lake), and to attract workers and residents to small communities.
The initiative, MNbump.com, uses local bloggers, videos, and social media to showcase community events and amenities. The region is located in the wedge of western Minnesota that juts into South Dakota, known locally as the “bump”.
